Hot on the heels of the Made in the North West Awards shortlist a fortnight ago, Glossop Cartons is delighted to have been shortlisted for another major regional award this week in the Employer of the Year category of the Greater Manchester Business Awards.
Family values have shaped every aspect of Glossop Cartons’ operation over the last 39 years and the business has always worked hard to create an enjoyable and supportive work environment for staff, so we’re thrilled to have been recognised for our commitment to staff wellbeing – especially given the strains of the past 18 months and the management buy-out earlier this year.
The new senior management team is committed to continuing the culture of a family business – the foundations of which were forged by the company’s previous Managing Director, Jacky Sidebottom-Every, along with her husband Brian, and her sisters Vicky and Jill – and is dedicated to the welfare of all 100 employees. This has resulted in continued high staff satisfaction levels and a well-motivated workforce.
Each employee is treated as a member of the ‘family’ and benefits from training, social events and supportive management. Perhaps because of this approach, the firm enjoys excellent staff retention with nearly a third of employees being with the business between 5 and 30+ years.
There are great opportunities for staff development and progression and Glossop Cartons actively promotes from within the business when possible, as we did recently when we upskilled some of our workforce and made internal moves to fill a vacancy in the Cut & Crease department.
The senior managers collaborate to develop a sound corporate strategy, while working closely with their team to ensure that all staff are committed to maintaining high standards of work in every aspect of a company’s operations. This Total Quality Management (TQM) approach involves, amongst other things, regular internal and external training for staff of all levels. In addition, everyone is empowered to influence the firm’s progress and an open-door policy applies at all times which we believe helps foster an inclusive and supportive environment across the whole workforce.
Our close-knit team – a lot of whom live locally – have worked incredibly hard during the pandemic and helped the business to achieve solid growth in the last year despite the challenges of Covid-19 and we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to each and every one of them – it really is a team effort and we believe we have an exceptionally strong and dedicated team which helps keep us at the top of our game, providing high-quality products and services to all our customers.
The Greater Manchester Business Awards will take place on September 3rd. For more information on Glossop Cartons’ award-winning history, visit our Awards page here >
