While the details of any Brexit deal are yet to be finalised, at the time of writing, commercial contracts are already starting to come back to the UK from overseas. And that is good news indeed.
Jacky Sidebottom-Every, joint Managing Director at Glossop Cartons, shares a positive business story that has arisen directly out of the post-Brexit trading environment and notes how the symbiotic nature of business enables us to thrive in times of great uncertainty and change.
Recognising the Benefits of British Suppliers
Glossop Cartons recently secured a new contract with an existing client (an engineering component manufacturer) who wanted shorter lead times to bring product packaging previously sourced from the Far East (via Europe) back to Britain. The business owners’ rationale was that by using a British supplier they would enjoy the following benefits:
– Greater control over the supply chain
– Shorter lead times and better service for customers
– Lower unit costs – avoiding both tariffs and potentially costly delays
But perhaps most importantly they were passionate about supporting another British manufacturing business.
Gaining Competitive Advantage
Whether you are in favour of Brexit or not, the benefits of partnering with other British businesses as we look to build a post-pandemic recovery are clear and now any cost advantage of buying overseas has been eroded, we can focus on playing to our strengths. As a sector we have a wealth of world-leading expertise and a proven reputation for innovation. We’re agile and adaptable, giving businesses that buy from us a significant competitive advantage.
Harnessing the Best of UK Manufacturing Innovation
A recent article in ‘The Manufacturer’ sets out why the North West is particularly well-placed for the challenges ahead and describes how it has become ‘a beacon for investment, innovation and influence’. You can read it here.
Our Service
A family business, Glossop Cartons has been at the leading edge of the packaging industry for almost 40 years and innovation has certainly been at the heart of our success. As our clients adapt in line with their customers’ demands for increasingly sustainable, efficient and user-friendly packaging – so do we.
Last year, for instance, we invested in the UK’s first Brausse Forza 900 C3, a 900mm wide automatic folder-gluer with an advanced control system and user interface, that can handle 800gsm of solid board and enables us to create bespoke, client-specific box shapes.
Our extensive product range comprises cartons, sleeves, wallets, blister pack cards, skin pack cards, countertop and shelf displays, header and hanging cards.
